Strathmore Stampede Parade 2023 participants wowed crowds with their float decorating abilities and friendly smiles.
There were 89 float entries this year according to Mary Lynne Martens, who was judging on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce. The other three judges were Erin Stewart of Canadian Gypsum, Carlee McIssac of CM Maps and Socials, and Eric Heuver of Eagle Lake Turf Farms Ltd.
“This year is the 50th anniversary of the Strathmore Ag Society and parade participants were encouraged to deck out their floats to represent the 50-year anniversary’s golden theme,” said Martens.
The Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce organized the event and had their work cut out for them when it came to judging. The judging was based on criteria such as expression of the theme, originality, workmanship and overall appearance.
Kai He, who moved to Strathmore with his family two weeks ago, said he enjoyed his first parade.
“We enjoyed the parade very much,” said He. “It was our first parade in Canada.”
Paradegoers started lining the streets well before 9 a.m. on Saturday and the crowds really enjoyed the colorful floats and entertainment. The four judges had to be quick to judge each entry as they passed by and gave bonus points based on how an entry encouraged the crowd with smiles, cheering and their excitement of being in the parade.
Extra points could also be earned if their float was entirely decorated, including the tow vehicles, floats and participants.
Strathmore residents are asked to keep an eye on the Strathmore Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Town of Strathmore’s social pages and websites where the winners will be announced.
