Strathmore RCMP participated in a Calgary RCMP investigation which led to the apprehension of several individuals from a property in Strathmore.
Staff Sgt. Mark Weilgosz with Strathmore RCMP explained local police were advised by the Calgary detachment about a subject of interest in one of their ongoing investigations that they were aware may be frequenting a house in Strathmore.
“As a result of our cooperative efforts, our members were able to confirm that the subject of interest was in fact at a specific residence which was in the 400 block of third street here in Strathmore,” he said. “As a result, Calgary police obtained an arrest and search warrant for the individual in that residence in commission with their investigation.”
Members of the Strathmore RCMP emergency response team, general investigation, and general organization participated in executing the warrant to secure and search the residence, as well as the subjects inside.
According to Weilgosz, the search was conducted Nov. 13 at approximately 10:30 a.m. The subjects within the residence voluntarily exited the building upon the direction and command of the emergency response team and were each taken into police custody.
“Two subjects were taken by Calgary Police back to Calgary. In continuance with their investigation, we located a number of others in the residence who were wanted on various other matters that were dealt with on other warrants, and a search of the residence was carried out by Calgary Police and our general investigation section members. All evidence and items related to that investigation were taken back with them to Calgary,” he said. “Weapons, documents and body armour were recovered amongst other items in the investigation. To the full extent of which it relates to Calgary’s ongoing investigation, I cannot comment.”
The purpose of deploying the emergency response team was in response to the potential use of weapons by suspect persons during the execution of a warrant. The goal was to minimize the risk to attending officers, as well as to the surrounding public while the investigation was being conducted.
Strathmore RCMP will not be releasing the identities of the individuals who were taken into custody, nor will they be releasing information regarding recovered items and evidence. Jurisdiction is with the Calgary Police Service to release such information.
“From what I am told, some of (the offenders) are known to us. They are certainly known to the police if they are on warrant status and whenever we find people who are on warrant status, we do our best to ensure that they are processed in an appropriate matter – whether they should be released by the police they should be brought before a Justice of the Peace,” said Weilgosz.
Some of the individuals found at the residence investigated and searched were released from police custody with orders to appear before provincial court on their respective other matters.
