We are sad to announce the passing of Donna Cecelia Stewart of Strathmore, AB on June 4th, 2023.
Donna is survived by her two daughters, Myrna-Lea Johnson (Greg) and Marvis Stewart (Rob Matlock), sister and brother-in-law, Diane & Gordon Hvingelby, her sister Darlene, her grandchildren; Dawson & Denver Johnson, Dusty & Brad (Munchrath), and Shayne & Ryder Matlock. Her great grandsons, Jett & Jagger (Munchrath), nieces Debbie (West) and Danielle (Sjostrom) and nephew, Darrell (Hvingelby) and many friends & relatives of Stewart and Gustavsen families.
Donna grew up on her parent’s farm (Chris & Evelyn Christensen) in the Hussar area. She graduated from the Standard school in 1959. She then moved to Calgary and lived with her beloved grandparents “Bedsta & Bedstafar” (Alfred & Anna Gustavsen), where she attended Henderson Business college. Donna, and her former husband Jack (Stewart) settled in the Mayland Heights area of Calgary. They moved to Wainwright in 1975 and purchased the Wainwright hotel. A few years later they moved to Strathmore where Donna purchased the Hip Huckers clothing store. She relocated to Calgary and worked in many accounting positions retiring after working for many years at the City of Calgary.
Donna was a loving mother to her daughters and was involved in all their activities. Family remained important to her throughout her life, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and organizing gatherings with her cousins.
She taught adult education lessons in healing, meditation, and reiki where she forged strong friendships with her students.
She was a sports enthusiast and held season tickets to the Calgary Stampeders for most of her life. She enjoyed watching the Calgary Flames, attending the Stampede and visiting the mountains. She is forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will take place Monday, June 12th at the Calgary Scandinavian Centre, 739 – 20 Ave NW Calgary, AB, at 1:30pm.
