Parade of garage sales is back

By Melissa Piche Times Contributor

Mark your calendars as the annual Parade of Garage Sales is back on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local Strathmore realtor and proprietor Debbie Mitzner is once again hosting the community event. This will be the fifth year that Mitzner has been spearheading the garage sale, which she hopes will bring many people to the community.

“Last year we had over 100 people participate (hosting garage sales) and it probably brings 1,000 people to the community,” she said.

The garage sale event is advertised from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but people are allowed to host their own sales as many days they would like.

“Some people open Friday night but that’s their choice,” she said.

Something fun this year will be the presence of food trucks.

“There will be food trucks located in the town office parking lot,” she said. “When you’re shopping it’s nice to just grab and run.”

Mitzner said the food trucks are handy for those avid shoppers who don’t want to waste a single minute of precious buying time. All food trucks must be licensed through the Town of Strathmore.

Mitzner started the Parade of Garage sales as a community event.

“It gets rid of a lot of stuff,” she laughed. “It just keeps getting better every year.”

She mentions that people start contacting her in January to get event details.

“The phone starts ringing with people asking ‘When’s the next date?’”

She picks the date strategically as to not interfere with Langdon as they also host a garage sale event the weekend after Strathmore.

The garage sale is a perfect time for people to find that special coveted treasure they’ve been searching for and it can also help people who may have just moved so they can get rid of some excess stuff and boxes.

“Lots of treasures to be found,” said Mitzner.

Mitzner wants to reiterate the importance of respecting the bylaws regarding garage sale signs within the town, bylaw 13-05 part IV all garage sale signs may be placed on the boulevard only on the day prior to and on the day(s) of the garage sale.

If people want their garage sale on the map, they need to register (for map purposes only). Registration and event details can be found by searching “Strathmore Parade of Garage Sales” on Facebook.

People can also register for the map by call/text (403-350-5117) or via email (mitzner.events@gmail.com).
