Lorne Dennis Moore passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Rockyview Hospital, Calgary. As he went to be with God, he was surrounded by his wife Margaret (Newton), his Priest, Rev. Father Brad Everett and his dear friends Linda and Sid Holt.
Lorn was born and raised in Hanover, Ontario, beloved son of John Edward and Florence Ruth (Bartman) Moore on April 10, 1951. Lorne had many relatives in the area and spent time with cousins and his many childhood friends. His first job was as a newspaper boy with his last stop being his Grandmother who always had treats for him. Lorne had his first business at age 16 selling motorcycles and doing custom work. He went to Fanshaw College and obtained three trade licenses – automotive, heavy truck and motorcycle. He and Margaret shared a passion for all things with wheels and racing. Lorne had his own snowmobile racing team. He worked for both Arctic Cas and Suzuki teaching technicians across Canada. He opened his second business in Ayton, Ontario where he and his first wife Lema (Smith) Chappel raised their three children, horses, and dogs on a small acreage. Lorne’s business, Saugeen Speed and Sports was very successful.
Lorne was always community minded and chaired Home Comings, was on the Hanover Raceway Board, and most recently, a member of the Gleichen and District Community spending many years as president. Lorne was raised in the Lutheran Church and since moving to Gleichen was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. He was involved with our children of the Church and was for many years our Verger. Lorne was very creative, he helped design homes that could be pre-built, disassembled and shipped in a container as well as many other ideas. He never stopped creating. He had a great eye for color and was Margaret’s go to for anything creative in their home or picking out fabrics for quilts and other projects for Margaret.
Lorne leaves behind his wife Margaret, his children Luke and wife Christina, Hillary and her husband Jared (Bond), Emily and her partner Jeff, four grandchildren, Ava, Ashton and Adelle and born on September 3, 2023, Huon, as well as many friends.
