SWCC begins implementing Digital Economy Program

The Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce (SWCC) is excited to be implementing its Digital Economy Program with Community Futures Wild Rose (CFWR). 

According to Scott Silva, executive director of the of the SWCC, the program aims to help local businesses establish and maintain a stronger online presence and to modernize their operations.

“The Community Futures Wild Rose, in partnership with the Town of Strathmore, Wheatland County and Strathmore Chamber of Commerce was able to get funding to be able to offer a complimentary cell service to all of our local business community,” said Silva. “What it is, they’ve been able to hire digital service specialists (DSS) who are able to go out and help increase the digital footprint of our businesses, whether that means Google listings, any Google information, website updates, social media footprints, or helping them get online engagement.”

As an example, for an existing business that does not sell online, they may be assisted in setting up an online e-commerce presence through Shopify. 

Silva said it will allow local businesses to explore different concepts which may have been too daunting or intimidating for some folks to take on by themselves, prior to the implementation of the program.

The grant that was acquired will fund DSS partnerships with businesses for up to 12 months to see them through the modernization process.

Silva said the goal is to get up to 40 different businesses between Strathmore and Wheatland County signed up for the program. By day two of the program launch, Silva said he estimated 10 businesses to be already enrolled.

The cap at 40 businesses was based on the funding that was made available for the 12 month long program.

“We’re excited to get it out there and even those that have hesitation or reservations, the idea is this is the opportunity where you get to learn everything at no cost or expense to yourself,” said Silva. “It’s a great learning tool, even if you’ve been down the road once. It’s always good to get a refresher.”
