It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Harris (Hal) Gene Lust on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at the age of 80 years.

Hal was born in Medicine Hat, AB to Emil and Lorna Lust on August 8, 1941. He was raised on the farm with his parents and grandparents until the family moved to Lethbridge.   He worked various jobs in the car business and purchased Strathmore Motor Products in 1978.  He owned SMP for 44 years and the dealership provided him with much joy and satisfaction over the years.  Hal always said that he loved every minute of going to work there.  Over the years, the dealership received several prestigious awards such as the GM President’s Club and the Triple Crown. In more recent years, he enjoyed traveling the world, flower gardening, woodworking, going for morning coffee with dear friends and spending time with family.   

Hal is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan; Daughters, Deanna (Clarence) Kooistra and Bonnie Gilmore; Susan’s children, Brad (Carrie Aiken) Scarlett and Carrie (Will Keeman) Scarlett; Daughter in law, Janice (Scott Reid) Patience; Grandchildren, Sabrina, Maria, Emma, Avery, Hayden; Brother, Barry (Christina) Lust; Nieces, Roberta (Osbert Peters), Jolene; Tracy Basaraba, Debra Basaraba, Denise Basaraba, and Craig Lust.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lorna; first wife Alma Mae, sister Ruby Basaraba, niece Lisa Basaraba, and nephew Brett Lust. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Strathmore Alliance Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor John Duerksen officiating. A reception for friends and family will follow.

 The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Andrew Kelly, Nurse Jennifer Matatall, Nurse Marianne Klassen, Nurse Laura Smith, the Strathmore Hospital emergency unit, and the Skypointe hospice care team.
