Johnson, Carolyn Antoinette (Godfrey)

Johnson,Carolyn Antoinette (Godfrey)

1942 – 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn.  She was born on June 25, 1942 in Calgary and was the only child to Edward Godfrey and Johanna (Kuyten).  Carolyn grew up and lived in Strathmore her whole life.  She attained her LPN Nursing degree in 1962 and worked for several doctors in the area including Dr. Avramenko and Dr. Lavalee.  She also met and married Floyd Johnson in 1962.  They had two son, Greg Edward and Dale Nolan.  Floyd, Carolyn, and the boys spent many weekends skidooing, boating, fishing, and camping.  Later on, their cedar house on the corner became a welcoming hub and comfortable hangout for many of Greg and Dale’s friends.

Carolyn’s life revolved around her family and community. She served Strathmore in various capacities throughout her 79 years.  She coached girls baseball, organized the Carnival Queen contest, sat on various boards, and spent many hours volunteering for the AG society and Strathmore Stampede.  She was a kind and generous soul who helped many people in the community when they needed a hand up.

Carolyn never ventured too far from Strathmore but she enjoyed an Alaskan Cruise with her partner of over 26 years, Fred Knight, and enjoyed frequent trips to Kalispell, Montana, to Arizona, and even Mexico for a wedding.

Nan was a fierce and loving Grandmother to Greg and Myrna-Lea’s children Dawson, Dusty, Denver, and Dale and Lynn’s girls Lacey and Hailey.  She hardly missed a ringette or hockey game and loved to watch the boys perform in their rodeos.  She also welcomed the opportunity to spoil her great grandsons Jett and Jagger.

Carolyn was truly one of a kind and she will be missed by many long time friends, acquaintances, and community members.  Her family will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
