Wise, Joyce Alice

Wise,Joyce Alice

December 11, 1927 – November 15, 2021

On November 15th, 2021, Joyce Alice Wise departed this world for her final adventure with the chorus of beloved granddaughters to see her off to the pearly gates. Joyce was born on December 11th, 1927 in Strathmore, Alberta and was a firecracker from the very start. Vivacious and creative, she loved to travel and make art and music, she wasn’t too fussed about perfection but always believed a lady should put on some lipstick to go out of the house. Joyce loved to sing, dance, and play piano; she was very funny and had the rare ability to laugh at herself and find the humour in difficult situations. She was mischievous and had a special talent for bringing people in on the joke (especially her grandchildren). She gave wonderful hugs and told fantastic stories and did what she wanted on her own terms her whole life through, being one of the few people in Strathmore lodge to dye her hair purple and even get a tattoo (of a giraffe) for her 85th birthday. Joyce knew how to appreciate a good beverage and some good food (occasionally also some questionable food), but most of all, knew how to appreciate the moment. Joyce once said to her granddaughter Meg that she had “seen everything I wanted to see and done everything I wanted to do”; her joie de vivre was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Bill Woodliffe and Arie Downey Sellers, her first husband Charles Wise, second husband James Spring, and son Gordan Wise. She is survived by her children Wendy (Syvlie) Wise, Lon (Gilda) Wise, and Russel (Carolyn) Wise as well her brothers Joey (Lynn) and Spencer (Valerie) Woodliffe and of course her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce’s memory (and more than a few of her quirks) live on in all who love her. A memorial service will be held at at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 4th at 2pm. Please note all covid restrictions apply for attendance:  Must be fully vaccinated, or have a 72 hour negative covid test.
