Sykamore releases third single

Born and raised Carseland native and singer/songwriter Sykamore is releasing her third single, Go Easy On Me, in as many months on March 19.

The single is set to be released worldwide on all streaming services before eventually being released as part of a larger collection along with the two other recently released singles, Cheap Thrills and Stay Broke, on an album at a later date.

“These songs were all written in 2019 when I was deep in the writing process for this upcoming album. They all have co-writers on them, and they were inspired largely by ’80s pop music and country style storytelling,” said Jordan Ostrom, better known in the music industry as Sykamore.

Self-described as an emotional, modern country with a ’70s easy listening vibe, Go Easy On Me wasn’t written with a specific story in mind, but the breakup song is easily relatable by all who listen to it.

“I think a lot of people can relate to it – basically not being ready to face reality and going so far as to shield yourself from the truth until you’re strong enough to handle it,” said Sykamore who gained inspiration for the song from the title, which she had kept written down in an “idea folder.” Writer Liz Rose came along to help breathe life into the song, that was then produced by Michael Knox of Music Knox Records along with Wheelhouse Records.

With over 5.3 million combined streams, Sykamore was recently name a CMT 2020-2021 “Listen Up” artist. She also won the 2014 ATB All-Albertan Song Writing Contest and in 2015 she was nominated for a CCMA Discovery Award. She was then discovered by Rhett Atkins who came across her music on Twitter, and he invited her to join the roster of Home Team Publishing which led her to relocate to Nashville in 2018.

Sykamore grants her upbringing in the area to have impacted her love for country music.

“I grew up on a farm … about 20 minutes from Strathmore and actually went to high school there … with my siblings and parents, and we used to rodeo and do a lot of cliché’d country people things, so naturally country music was the first music I ever heard,” said Sykamore. “That lifestyle and my early musical exposure really swayed me in the direction of country music. It is where I feel most at home.”

Her last show in Strathmore was for the Arts on 817 concert series in 2019, and after having several cancelled shows in 2020 and being unable to play any live in-person shows since the pandemic started, Sykamore is excited to be scheduled to play several festivals this summer, including one in Ontario and another in Montreal.

But until then, Sykamore is excited for the release of Go Easy On Me on March 19 and for other songs to be part of a larger collection and soon-to-be album. Her music is available on all streaming services, and she can be followed on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok.
