Hosted alongside the haunted houses of the Stampede Fright Night at the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society grounds, was also a pumpkin carving contest for kids and families.
Similar to last year, the contest was sponsored by the REMAX Real Estate REPS, and the roughly 400 pumpkins were donated by Tina’s No Frills.
As the stampede grounds were free to enter, so was the carving contest. Residents and families were encouraged to come down, pick a pumpkin and simply have a good time.
Prizes were awarded at the end of each day for each age group, being infant to five years, six to 11 years and 12 years and up.
“They can either paint them if they’re younger, or they can actually carve a Jack O’ Lantern. It was pretty cute to see some of the different designs that they came up with – every kind of Halloween costume placed on a pumpkin you could think of,” said Ag Society CEO, Ryan Schmidt adding that the contest ran on Oct. 28 – 30.
Pictures of the winning pumpkins will be posted to the Strathmore Stampede Facebook page.
“None of the stuff we do, including Fright Night would ever happen without (out volunteers) and we sure appreciate it,” said Schmidt.
