November 26, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Alfred Madsen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the age of 85 years from prolonged complications of diabetes.

Alfred was born in Bassano, AB, and spent most of his life in Hussar, AB.  His parents, Soren and Anna, celebrated their Danish community; visitors from Denmark were often a part of Alfred’s life and there was a lot of good Danish food, Aquavit, laughter, and lots of stories. Alfred took over the family farm, married Joan in 1964, and raised their children in the farming community of Hussar.  Alfred had a love of country music and in the day, he was known to be quite a yodeler.   He enjoyed taking driving trips down south to the US, particularly Nashville and Arizona.  He never lost his love of driving and after moving to Strathmore, he still enjoyed driving often to Hussar to check on the fields.

He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Moira Madsen (deceased 2001).

He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Jody Barrett (Jeff Barrett), Jeffrey Madsen (Cindy Andrew), and Cheryl Chapman (Will Chapman); and seven grandchildren: Bryce Madsen, Kari Sturgeon (Matt Sturgeon), Kailyn Madsen, Anna Barrett (Heidi Mithaug-Cook), Trina Barrett, Soren Chapman and James Chapman, his sister Elsie Treacy (Bill Treacy deceased 2008) and his companion Ann Selgensen.

A private Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Madsen’s service streamed live on the day of the service at https://mhfh.com/tribute/details/34728/Alfred-Madsen/obituary.html#tribute-start.
