Archery club shoots for new recruits

The Strathmore Archery Club is opening its range, for anyone interested in trying out the sport, every Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
“With the relaxation of the regulations recently, we decided it’s time to not only have the range open, but actually have organized evenings and shooting to get more participation from the club members and especially help out the less experienced people who might need some guidance and or help,” said club secretary Ken Kuenzl.
Both members and non-members are welcome at the club’s outdoor range where club representatives will help with instruction and answer questions. Learning archery is an especially unique experience, according to Kuenzl.
“Archery is one of the few sports where kids and parents can actually shoot together and compete together and against each other on a level playing field,” he said. “The only difference would be the distances that we would shoot depending upon age.”
For members of the club, the range is open at all times. Members are given the combination to the lock and are free to shoot targets at their leisure.
“The idea is to come to the range, throw some arrows in a safe and fun way and grow the sport of archery,” he said.
Going forward, Kuenzl says the club is hoping to host more events and competitions, including paper target competitions at Olympic level distances.
“We will have the occasional outdoor competition as the club becomes more active and we start seeing things going back to normal,” he said.
