Alberta Young Speakers for Agriculture to hold virtual competition

Youth from across the province will once again be speaking up about agriculture virtually this summer.

The Alberta Young Speakers of Agriculture (AYSA) board has decided to hold its annual competition by having competitors present their speeches virtually from their homes.

The event will take place on Wed., July 14, starting at 9 a.m.

“By having the participants compete virtually from their homes, it ensures the health, well-being, and comfort of everyone involved is protected,” said Eric Dalke, AYSA chair. “On the heels of last year’s successful virtual event, we are looking forward to building on that in July.”

This year’s topics include: 1. How a global pandemic changed Canadian agriculture – or has it; 2. What it means to be a woman in agriculture in 2021; 3. Food waste, food security and food policy: what is agriculture’s/aquaculture’s role; 4. Canadian aquaculture: opportunities in a growing industry; and, 5. Does a changing climate mean opportunities or headaches for Canadian agriculture?

Youth aged 11-24 can enter the competition. The deadline for registration is June 30.
