Two people have been charged with multiple offences after police responded to a report of possible shots fired on Siksika Nation.
Gleichen RCMP responded to the call on Sept. 21, 2020 at around 5:45 p.m.
An adult male was found with serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of shots fired from a vehicle. However, these injuries were not firearm related. The victim was later transported to hospital.
Officers located the suspect vehicle, which turned into a driveway to a residence. Two individuals then exited the vehicle and entered the residence. As firearms were involved, the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), which uses tactics, specialized weapons and equipment to resolve high-risk situations, was called to assist and establish containment around the residence.
ERT gained entry to the residence after the suspects didn’t come out when requested. The two suspects were located inside and arrested without incident. A rife, ammunition and a baton were seized by police.
Paul Mcmaster, 35, of Siksika Nation was charged with 31 offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and nine counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Kaydria Wright, 28, of Siksika Nation was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Both accused were remanded and appeared in Siksika Provincial Court on Sept. 24. Their matters were put over until Oct. 1. Results of the appearance were not received in time for publication.
