Strathmore Fun Runners cancel future plans

The Strathmore Fun Runners has had to cancel their future events and plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Everything is still up in the air for this year for sure,” said Todd Blakney, club president.

The club had previously planned to have a show and shine in July.

Although everything was cancelled, some of the members of the clubs still go out for cruises on their own.

“Guys are just cruising and getting involved with other groups and doing that,” said Blakney. “Cochrane was a couple weeks ago, and Lethbridge was two weeks ago, so there’s usually something going on. Now with the pandemic, there’s not really any gatherings but more people cruising.”

The Strathmore Fun Runners have been around for 26 years and has 25 active members.

The cars that everyone owns in the club varies from person to person.

“There’re guys that are into the ’30s, ’50s Dodges, ’50s Fords, and then all the way up to the muscle car,” said Blakney, who added there are a few trucks in the club, too, from the ’60s and ’80s.

“It’s pretty wide open in terms of what people have, but it’s pretty much an older group (of cars),” said Blakney.

The age group of the club ranges from 32-80.

“If you’re a car enthusiast that’s really what it’s all about, doesn’t matter age or use,” said Blakney.
