SCHAFER, Holly Ann Cecilia
Holly Ann Cecilia Schafer, aged 63, passed away suddenly on May 19, 2020. She was born on August 3, 1956 in Calgary, Alberta to Edmond and Eileen Verweire. She married the love of her life, Boyd Schafer, on November 10, 1979.
Holly grew up on the family farm in Rockyford, Alberta. Farm life with a big family was always busy. One of her favourite memories of farm life was when she went on a cattle drive her dad. Holly was a devout Catholic having her first Holy Communion when she was six and later Confirmed in 1969. Holly graduated high school in 1974 and completed a training program to aid children with disabilities. She also earned a certificate to become a private investigator to “keep an eye on her boys” (not that she would admit it).
Holly put her family above all else. She and Boyd moved to keep their family together in Edmonton, Spain, Greece, Strathmore, and later Texas. She loved travelling with Boyd and enjoyed holidays in Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, China, and numerous locations within the United States.
Holly had a larger than life personality. She could get an autograph from any singer or sports player. She loved music, concerts and “name that tune” with her boys. She was an avid flames fan as evidenced by the huge competitions they had in their house every hockey season. She also enjoyed making up nicknames for the people she loved. She was a social butterfly. She would engage anyone and everyone in conversation and would brighten their day with her warm and welcoming smile and personality. She would always part with a hug and a kiss for all.
Holly was pre-deceased by her dad, Edmond. She is survived by her mother Eileen; husband Boyd; siblings LaRue, Marcel (Jo), Cordell (Denise), Rebecca, Jocelyne (Jesse); children Christopher (Jaeda), Adam (Jennifer) and Zachary; grandchildren Maddix, Levi, Rhett and Harlyn.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wheatland Crisis Society (P.O.
