Haunting Halloween at ag grounds

Those looking for a serious scare – or just some fun – can visit the Strathmore ag grounds on the weekend of Halloween.
The Strathmore and District Agricultural Society is holding Fright Night at the Strathmore ag grounds on the evenings of Oct 30 and 31. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, including a pumpkin carving contest (on Saturday), food trucks and a spooky beer garden, explained Meagan Miller with the ag society.
But the main attraction are three mazes, each with their own unique theme.
The first will be “little buckaroos” for younger children or anyone not interested in a serious fright.
The other two mazes are geared towards teens and adults – one featuring notorious movie killers, and the other with deranged rodeo clowns throughout a haunted carnival. They will include real actors and special effects designed to leave a frightful impression, said Christine Scott, who is organizing the mazes. “We’re definitely putting all in.”
The organization is looking for volunteers in four-hour shifts to help with the event.
About 20 volunteers are needed inside the two larger mazes, but some are needed outside as well. Masks for volunteers are being provided, noted Scott.
The event will adhere to all COVID-19 precautions, with masks mandatory inside the mazes and hand sanitizer provided throughout. Every 15 minutes, 12 people will be allowed to pass through the mazes in groups of four.
Admission is free for children under 2, $5 for parents with a child, $5 for children three to 13, and $10 for 14 and up. The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 30) and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 31).
