HANSEN, Gerald (Gerry) Douglas

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Douglas Hansen who passed away Suddenly on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the age of 78.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Evelyn Hansen; daughters, Cindy McKay (Kent) and Barb (Jerry) Hodge; grandchildren, Bruce (Tasha) Hansen, Avery Kathol (Jessica), Devon Kathol (Paige), Amy (Randy) Smith, Ian (Amy) McKay, Clint McKay (Kelsey), and Scott (Tanya) McKay; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jeffery, Kadie, Miles, Charlotte, Carson, and Emerson; brothers, Ron (Annette), Michael (Wanda), Tim (Joanne), Doug, Martin, and Terry; and sister, Sandy Goldsmith along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gerry was predeceased by his son, Jeff Hansen; brother, Gord Hansen; and parents, Pep & Jenny Hansen.
Gerry was born and raised on the family farm outside of Standard. He attended Standard School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Calgary. He attended SAIT where he studied electronics.
While away at school he enjoyed coming home on the weekends to play with his younger siblings and help out on the family farm. He met Evelyn, the love of his life in 1961 and they were married in 1964 and had three children.
Gerry worked for Chevron, Calgary for 10 years. In 1972 Gerry and Evelyn moved their family from Calgary to the farm near Standard where they farmed with his Dad and brother Ron. He enjoyed working part time at Cargill in Chancellor for 20 years. Gerry and Evelyn successfully farmed until 2005 when they retired. In 2013, they moved to Strathmore.
Gerry enjoyed volunteering in the community and spent 25 years as a Hussar Lions Club member. Gerry and Evelyn enjoyed an active social life that included various community functions, golfing, curling, snowmobiling, and camping. Gerry enjoyed watching sports and staying current with the news of the day. He also enjoyed meeting up with the morning coffee group.
Gerry and Evelyn wintered in Casa Grande Arizona for several years. They enjoyed traveling on recent trips to Europe, Nashville, Hawaii, Mexico & Panama. They also enjoyed camping and visiting family and friends with their motorhome.
Gerry was a friend to all who knew him. He adored and was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Due to Covid-19 the service will be limited to immediate family.
