Farmers’ market opens for the season

The Strathmore Farmers’ Market will be holding their first market of the season June 19 in a new location at the Kinsmen Park ball diamond parking lot.

The market is starting later in the season than usual, but is scheduled to run every Friday afternoon from June until September.

The Strathmore Farmers’ Market has been an Alberta approved farmers’ market since 1997, having followed the requirements of a minimum 80 per cent of vendor’s products being locally produced in Alberta to qualify.

For the past two years, the farmers’ market has been held in the outdoor pavilion in Kinsmen Park which is currently closed off due to the municipal building construction. So for this year, the market has moved a little further south and will look a little different, but it is still in the downtown district.

Shoppers will have to park across the street from the market and follow all signs and rules, maintain social distancing and use the market entrance and exit while shopping. Sanitization stations will be set up, and changes to how vendors and customers interact will also be implemented resulting in less handling of products before purchase.

There will be a mix of vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, baking, crafts and much more. As with past years, some vendors will be at every market and some will only be at some markets, so customers are recommended to attend as many markets as possible as vendors are always changing. The Strathmore Farmers’ Market will run every Friday throughout the summer from 3 to 6:30 p.m. until Sept. 18.
