Bottle and food drive to support food bank

Local RE/MAX offices are asking residents to gather up their empty bottles and cans and to donate to a bottle and food drive supporting local food banks.
All RE/MAX offices including the local RE/MAX Key and RE/MAX Horizon offices and their agents will be touring Strathmore on May 14 collecting bottle, food and cash donations with all proceeds going to Wheatland County Food Bank. Pickups will also occur in Langdon on May 12 along with a food-only drive in Chestermere on May 12 with proceeds going to their local food banks.
“With all of the quarantining going on, a lot of folks are collecting a lot of bottles and we thought this would be a great way to help lessen their burden (of bottles) and get some much needed cash to the food bank,” said Hayley Poirier, one of the event organizers with RE/MAX Key Real Estate REPS.
The bottle drive will be non-contact and those interested in donating must register by 7 a.m. on their designated day by emailing charity@remaxkey.ca giving their address and if they will be donating bottles, food or cash. All registered donations must be ready on their front drive or front step by 8 a.m. and be sealed and marked with “Remax bottle/food drive.”
Local RE/MAX agents will start collecting the donations at 9 a.m. and once finished, will take the bottles to the local bottle depot before donating all collected cash and food to the food bank.
“We knew that the food banks in all of the communities that we live and work in, we knew they were struggling,” said Poirier. “We’re going to have our community trailer out and picking up all the donations and it’s going to be an amazing day.”
