The Zone 2 U14AA Blaze ringette team took gold at the 2020 Tim Horton Pacific Ring ringette tournament held Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Richmond, B.C.
According to head coach Wes Clark, this was the seventh tournament for the team, and they captured their sixth gold medal with a convincing 4-0 win over Calgary Red.
“We have played really well all year, but this weekend was probably our most consistent play,” said Clark. “The girls are easily motivated, and their work ethic is unbelievable. I have never coached a team that works as hard as this group does. It is a special experience when you have the opportunity to work with a group of players like this.”
The Blaze have played 52 games with a record of 46 wins and six losses. They have won The Rusty Ring, The Platinum Ring and Woods Tournament, took home silver in Winnipeg, won gold the following weekend in Lacombe, won the Esso Golden Ring and now the Pacific Ring. The girls are now preparing for provincials in Spruce Grove beginning on Feb. 28.
The team is comprised of players from five different ringette associations, and 11 of the 14 players are playing AA Ringette for the first time, added Clark.
