Artisan market coming to Rosebud

By Janet Kanters, Editor

Some of Alberta’s most talented artists and artisans will be showing their creativity at the first Art + Artisan Market in Rosebud on Aug. 15.

Rosebud is well known for its stunning, “paintable” rural valley views, and drama and music around Rosebud School of the Arts (RSA) and Rosebud Theatre.

The Rosebud Art + Artisan Market will feature local talent in long time artists Royal Sproule, Randall Wiebe and Valerie Speer, as well as artists normally featured at the Calgary Stampede. Additional featured artists will include Stampede Art Showcase artist Neil Hamelin and Calgary artist Doug Levitt, who is a former student at RSA. Since 2002, Levitt has been painting full time in a successful art practice and internationally well-known teaching studio. He has garnered multiple awards for his work and is in numerous national and international collections.

The Art + Artisan Market will feature a variety of arts such as paintings, pottery, metal and fibre, and will also include COVID-safe music, food trucks, fresh air and sunshine.

Groups will be limited to up to six “bubbled” adults looking to beautify their home or office with creativity and small families looking for art, artisan and food purchases.

The Art + Artisan Market goes on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the hamlet’s main street.

In addition, the second annual Rosebud Plein Air Paint Out will be held Sept. 18-20, featuring artists from all over Alberta.
