Access to town facilities changes
By Sean Feagan, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter
Strathmore’s major sports facilities are closed as of Dec. 9 under the new provincial restrictions, including the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre, Strathmore Aquatic Centre and Strathmore Family Centre.
The Lions Outdoor Skating Rink is now open, but some restrictions are in effect, including a capacity limit of 10 people.
The Town of Strathmore recommends wearing a mask at the outdoor rink where it could be difficult to maintain two metres of separation from people outside one’s own household. This includes between the skating rink and parking lot, while putting on or taking off skates, and while skating. Face masks are not mandatory outdoors, however. No outdoor hockey is permitted while on the rink.
For now, the Lions rink is the only current skating option in town, as ice at Strathmore Lake and Kinsmen Lake is not yet thick enough to safely support skating.
Town services available online
Although the town office is closed and employees are working from home for the time being, town services and staff are still available. Residents can email town staff or use online forms for parks or public works requests, available through the town’s website, or call using the town’s telephone directory, 403-934-3133. Utility and tax payments can be made online and by telephone.
