Warriors win again
By Brady Grove, Times Reporter
The Wheatland Warriors started the new year off right by extending their winning streak to 15 games with back-to-back road victories.
The local double-A bantam team beat the Central Alberta Selects in Lacombe on Jan. 5 by a score of 6-1, and they took the Red Deer Ramada on Jan 6 in Red Deer by a 5-1 score.
The Warriors winning streak began on Oct. 20, and they are now in first place in the South Central Alberta Hockey league with an 18-2-1 record.
The Warriors outplayed and outshot the Selects 55-12 with 10 different Warriors reaching the score sheet. Defenseman Tate Yule and forward Andrew Sikora led the Warriors in scoring with two assists each, and Matthew Dovichak guarded the net in the win.
In Red Deer, the Warriors found themselves down early when a Ramada power play found the back of the net, but they never allowed another goal. Warriors forward Dustin Holm scored a hat trick to give him 14 goals in the season and Yule had another two-point night. Parker Forrest secured the win for the Warriors with 13 saves.
The Warriors hope to continue their success in their next game against the West Central Tigers in Eckville on Jan. 13.
Chiefs sit in fifth
The Chiefs faced off against the CNHA Blazers on Jan. 9 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary. The score was too late for deadline.
It’s getting closer to playoffs now and the Chiefs sit in fifth place in the south conference in a very tight race with games in hand.

The AA peewee Wheatland Braves continue their regular season play this weekend with a double header, first against the Foothills Bisons in Hussar on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and then in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes Red on Jan. 12.
