Warriors end regular season on top

By Brady Grove, Times Reporter

The bantam AA Wheatland Warriors ended their impressive season by splitting their final weekend which saw them drop their first game 3-1 against the Olds Grizzlys on Feb. 22 at Hussar, and then rebounding for a 6-2 win versus the Red Deer Steel Kings on Feb. 24 at Strathmore family Centre
The Grizzlys goalie stood on his head and turned aside 34 shots to keep the Warriors out of the net. The lone Warrior goal was scored by Dustin Holm.
The Warriors saved their goal scoring for their final game against the Steel Kings and score they did. Warriors forward Nolan Mahussier was a passing wizard and set up his teammate Trey Kam for four goals. Warriors goalie Parker Forrest only had to make eight saves to secure the win.
The Warriors finished the season with a record of 29-4-1 and were 10 points ahead of the next closest contender.
The playoffs for the South Central Alberta Hockey League (SCAHL) function differently than the traditional NHL style bracket. Instead, the north and south conference will each host a playoff tournament. The winners of each playoff tournament will play each other in a best-of-three series for the league championship.
The Warriors are hosting the south conference playoff tournament at the Strathmore Family Centre this year. They play their first playoff game against the Foothills Bisons on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m., their second versus the Taber Golden Suns on March 1 at 5:15 p.m. and finish the round robin against the Okotoks Oilers on March 2 at 11:45 a.m.
Depending on round robin records, the Warriors will play a semifinal game March 3 at 10 a.m., and if they win will play for the conference title on March 3 at 4 p.m.

Chiefs firing on all cylinders
The midget AA Wheatland Chiefs have really hit their stride in the last few weeks of the regular season, picking up a 3-1 win against the Taber Golden Suns on Feb. 23 at Strathmore Family Centre, and downing the Okotoks Oilers 5-2 on Feb. 24 at Strathmore Family Centre.
The Chiefs are riding a five-game winning streak and currently have a 16-14-3 record with two games remaining in the regular season.
The Chiefs will hit the road to face the Foothills Bisons on March 2 at Nanton, and then return home to end their year against the Medicine Hat Hounds on March 3 at 1 p.m.

Braves solid in second last weekend
The peewee AA Wheatland Braves grabbed three points on the weekend, with a 3-3 tie with the Airdrie Lightning on Feb. 22 at Strathmore Family Centre, and a big 8-3 win against the Central Alberta Selects 8-3 on Feb. 24 at Lacombe. The club is now on a three-game unbeaten streak.
The Braves hold a 15-10-6 record in the south conference. They sit in fourth place in the nine team conference.
The Braves will close out the regular season with back-to-back games against the Cranbrook BP Wings in Cranbrook on March 2 and 3.
