Town of Strathmore municipal enforcement stresses seatbelt safety

By Michael Payton Strathmore Senior Peace Officer

Town of Strathmore Municipal Enforcement is highlighting seatbelt safety during the month of March.
Seatbelts are imperative to driver and passenger safety in vehicles.
According to the Office of Traffic Safety at Alberta Transportation, during 2016, 53 people died and 375 people sustained injuries as a result of not being properly restrained at the time of the collisions.
From 2012 to 2016, there were 341 unbelted fatalities in Alberta, with nearly a quarter of those being 18-24 year old men.
Children need to be restrained properly as well. Without a booster seat, a child is three and a half times more likely to suffer significant injury.
Car seats and seatbelts save lives. Remember to buckle up the next time you travel.
