Open Farm Days goes this weekend
By Janet Kanters Times Editor
Now in its seventh year, Open Farm Days takes place across the province this weekend, Aug. 17 and 18.
The weekend showcases Alberta’s agriculture industry and growing rural tourism sector. Host farms open their gates to share their agricultural experiences with their urban neighbours and to help them understand where their food comes from.
Some area participating farms include Eh Farms, Rosebud River Fibre Mill, TK Ranch and Aspen Crossing.
Many hosts will have on-farm sales of their products and produce, and many farms are cash only. Bringing a cooler will help keep those recently purchased products fresh.
Farm admission is free, but there may be costs for some activities. Go to https://albertafarmdays.ca/ for a complete list of host locations and a handy route-planning tool to help chart a countryside course.
Nearly 82,000 people have participated in Open Farm Days since 2013, injecting close to $650,000 into the rural economy through on-farm sales. Since its launch, 484 Alberta farms have participated in Open Farm Days.
