KIRKPATRICK, Evelyn Shirley

Shirley Kirkpatrick, beloved wife of Doug Kirkpatrick of Hussar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2019 after a brave battle with cancer. Shirley is survived and lovingly remembered by Doug, her husband of 53 years, and their children Sherri Snydmiller (Dan) and Ryan Kirkpatrick (Kristi). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Erica (Mitch), Jessica (Scott), Danielle, Jared, Adam, and Megan. Shirley is also survived by siblings Allan Gross (Lucienne), Larry Gross, and Joanne Murtagh (Gregg); brothers-in-law Andy Kirkpatrick, David Kirkpatrick (Judy) and sisters-in-law Margaret Munro and Winnie Peake (Hughie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Phillip and Ella Gross, in-laws Jack & Jess Kirkpatrick, brother-in-law Nick Munro, sister-in-law Yvette Gross, and son-in-law Ed Sage. Shirley was born in Simpson, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Watrous. After attending secretarial school, she moved to Calgary and started her career. Doug and Shirley were married on April 17, 1965 and they have enjoyed their married life together in Hussar ever since. They were never very far apart and together they created a lifetime of wonderful memories. They enjoyed curling, golfing, camping, and spending time with their grandchildren. Many laughs and happy times were shared with friends on their numerous cruises and at their winter home in Arizona. Shirley had a knack for organizing people and things and those skills were put to great use in her home and yard, and in her job as the secretary at Hussar School for 20 years. We will miss Shirley’s kind heart, funny sense of humour, and her ability to “tell it like it is.” The family would like to thank Peter and Helene at the Cozy Nest for their loving and compassionate care of Shirley during the past year. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Hussar Hall on Friday, March 29 th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory will be gratefully accepted by the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the Hussar Cemetery Fund.
