Information from Wheatland County Council Regular Meeting
A public hearing on an amendment to Bylaw 2019-22 which seeks to formally re-designate +/- 0.29 acres land use categorization with the parcel of land at SE-7-23-25W4M, from Agricultural General to Country Residential District has been scheduled for Dec. 3, 2019.

On Dec. 17, residents can speak to an amendment to Bylaw 2019-26 which seeks to re-designate +/- 2.27 acres within SW-2-24-26-W4M from Agricultural General District to Country Residential District.

Wheatland County AGM will be held at the Rockyford Community Centre in March. Council agreed to an evening meeting on March 31, 2020 at 7 p.m.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is stopping in Gleichen again this year. Festivities are being scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and the train is arriving at 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Council voted to consider adopting Feb. 1, 2020 as RCMP Recognition Day. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police service was formed on Feb. 1, 1920, as a Canadian amalgamation of the North West Mounted Police service.

Council defeated a motion to support Gleichen Community Association in acquiring a building associated with the former Gleichen school.

Division 1 councillor Jason Wilson proposed the “Alberta First Resolution” which was adopted in principal by council. The resolution will be taken to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) District 2 Central Zone meeting in February for sponsorship and, if accepted, will be presented at the RMA Annual General Meeting in the fall of 2020.
