Braves weather the Hurricanes

The AA peewee Wheatland Braves played a close game to a 1-1 tie against the Lethbridge Hurricanes White on Jan. 19 at the Strathmore Family Centre. Braves sniper Conner Radke streaked down the wing with no fear as the Hurricanes defenders got in his lanes to stop him.

The AA peewee Wheatland Braves had a strong weekend, picking up a win and a tie for their efforts in a pair of matchups against Lethbridge opponents.
The Braves beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes Red 5-3 in Lethbridge on Jan. 18 and then tied Lethbridge Hurricanes White 1-1 on Jan. 19 at the Strathmore Family Centre.
The Braves took a quick lead against the Hurricanes Red in the first period but fell behind in the second until a late goal tied it. The Braves notched two goals in the third and put up a defensive wall to keep the lead. Braves forward Luc Trevors scored a goal and two assists while Connor White made 28 saves in the victory.
The Hurricanes White proved to be a very equal matchup with both teams getting 30 shots on net. Both clubs were defensively perfect until the final period. The Hurricanes White scored the first goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining. The Braves appeared to be heading for defeat until Braves forward Dylan Serginson scored his fourth goal of the year to tie it up with only two minutes remaining.
With the three points gained on the weekend, the Braves have a 12-7-4 record and sit in fifth place in the south conference. They only trail the fourth-place Okotoks Oilers Green by two points and have three games in hand.
The Braves will face the Chestermere Lakers on Jan 25. at 7:30 p.m. in Strathmore and then play against the Foothills Bisons on Jan. 27 in Blackie.

Chiefs winning streak over
The AA midget Wheatland Chiefs winning streak came to an end with a 5-1 road loss to the Medicine Hat Hounds on Jan. 20. With the loss, the Chiefs drop below .500 and now hold a 10-11-2 record and sit in fifth place in the south conference.
The Chiefs have two games next weekend, first at home against the CBHA Rangers on Jan. 26 at 4:45 p.m., and then they face the Oilers in Okotoks on Jan. 27.

Warriors keep rolling with shutout
The AA bantam Wheatland Warriors seem unstoppable at this point in the season as they won their 17th straight game 5-0 against the Central Alberta Selects on Jan. 18 in Hussar. Warriors goalie Parker Forrest made 23 saves to get his third shutout of the season. The Warriors remain first in the league with a 20-2-1 record and have a four-point cushion on the second-place Bow Valley Timberwolves.
The Warriors are on the road to play the Medicine Hat Hounds on Jan. 26. They return to Strathmore for a heavyweight matchup against the Timberwolves on Jan. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
