Warriors domination continues

The bantam AA Wheatland Warriors extended their winning streak to nine games with two decisive wins over the weekend.
The Warriors hammered the Foothills Bisons 10-0 in Strathmore on Nov. 30 and then travelled to Cochrane and crushed the Bow Valley Timberwolves 7-1 on Dec. 2.
“We got a pretty deep group this year (and) that’s a big reason why we are having so much success,” said Warriors head coach Cody Brown.
The Warriors had 12 different players with at least a single point. Jace Koole, an affiliated player from the Bantam A Storm, led the Warriors in scoring with four points.
“I thought it was awesome, Jace is a great kid,” said Brown. “He made it very deep in the tryout process and we like to give those AP (affiliated player) guys a chance to come out and show their stuff.”
Warriors forward Joshua Alberda had three goals, while Ryder Many Grey Horses and Trey Kam each added three points in the victory. Warriors goaltender Matthew Dovichak wasn’t called upon often, but he stopped all 15 shots that came his way.
The Warriors continued their strong play against the Timberwolves with forwards Cole Grant and Noah Mahussier connecting for nine points. Mahussier assisted on all of Grant’s four goals. The Warriors outshot the opposition 48-14 with Warriors goaltender Parker Forrest protecting the net in the win.
The Warriors remain in first place in the south conference with a 12-2-1 record. Up next for the Warriors is a trip to High River for a rematch against the Bisons on Dec. 9.
“Obviously we are having some success, but we don’t want to get too big for our boots,” said Brown. “We treat every game like we want to play to the best of our abilities and get better.”

Chiefs win one, lose one
The midget AA Wheatland Chiefs lost a technical home game 5-3 against the Medicine Hat Hounds in Hussar on Dec. 1, but came out on top 2-1 against the Okotoks Oilers at the Strathmore Family Centre on Dec. 2.
Chiefs forward Stran Redcrow led his team in scoring against the Hounds with a goal and an assist, and Braden Tanner and Steve Wilks also found the back of the net in the loss. Chiefs goalie Drew Dovichak made 29 saves in a busy night for the netminder.
Redcrow’s success continued against the Oilers. He and fellow Chiefs forward Tyren Grimsdale both scored a goal and an assist to help lead the Chiefs to victory. Landen Brassard made 28 saves for the Chiefs.
With the victory the midget AA club now has a record of 6-9-2 and sits in fifth place in the south conference.
The Chiefs have a pair of home games coming up, the first against the CRAA Gold on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., and the second against the West Central Tigers on Dec. 9 at 4:15 p.m.

Braves winning streak stopped at three games
The peewee AA Wheatland Braves won their third game in a row 6-5 against the Taber Golden Suns on Nov. 30 in Hussar to start a winning streak but it was snapped by the Olds Grizzlys 6-4 on Dec. 2 in Olds.
The Braves outplayed and outshot the Golden Suns 42-33 with Braves forward Kyle McDonough scoring two goals and one assist. Eight other Braves players scored at least one point and Braves goalie Connor White made 28 saves.
It was a tough game against the Grizzlys which had two players combine for nine points to sink the Braves. The Braves were down 4-1 after the first period and were never able to recover despite clawing back into the game. Luc Trevors had three points for the Braves, while Nash Wassing and McDonough each put up two points.
The Braves are currently tied for fourth place with the Okotoks Oilers Green. Both teams have 20 points but the Braves have two games in hand. The Braves will have a chance for two more points when the Bow Valley Timberwolves come to the Strathmore Family Centre on Dec. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
