Warriors destroy Foothills Bisons
By Brady Grove, Times Reporter
The Bantam AA Wheatland Warriors decimated the Foothills Bisons 10-0 on Nov. 10 at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Centre in High River for their sixth straight win.
The Warriors wasted no time asserting their will by scoring five goals in the first period.
The Bisons goaltending duo tried to weather the storm but the Warriors never let up as they outshot the opposition by 33. Warriors goalie Matthew Dovichak didn’t have a busy night, but he was perfect as he made 14 stops to pick up the shutout.
Warriors forwards Brandon McGillivray and Philip Raycroft both scored hat tricks, and Andrew Sikora added a pair of goals. Ryder Many Grey Horses continued his strong season with a three-point night and Dustin Holm found his teammates with three assists.
With the win, the Warriors sit atop the south conference with a 9-2-1 record. The Lethbridge Hurricanes trail by only a single game with the exact same amount of games played.
The Warriors will look to continue their strong play as they square off against the West Central Tigers on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Chiefs lose on the road
The Midget AA Wheatland Chiefs were on the road and fell to the first place Lethbridge Hurricane Hounds 4-2 on Nov. 10. The Chiefs trailed by two heading into the third period, and despite firing 20 shots at the net, they only managed to score once in what was a close game statistically.
Chiefs forward Tyren Grimsdale and defenseman Mitch Desserre both found the back of the net. The power play didn’t help the Chiefs as they went zero for three in the game. Chiefs goalie Landon Brassard made 28 saves in the loss.
The Chiefs now sit in fourth place in the south conference with a record of 4-7-2 despite scoring 41 goals and only allowing 38 against. The Chiefs will have a long break and won’t play their next game until Nov. 24 against the fifth place Taber Golden Suns in Taber.
Braves tie one, lose one
The Peewee AA Wheatland Braves played back-to-back games over the weekend, tying the Medicine Hat Hounds 4-4 on Nov 9 in Medicine Hat before getting blown out 6-1 by the West Central Tigers on Nov. 10 in Hussar.
The Braves and Hounds traded goals throughout the entire game with the Hounds outshooting the Braves 35-22. Braves goaltender Connor White made 31 saves to keep his team in the game. The Braves had four separate goal scorers in Colton Gabe, Nathan Maloney, Jordan Hendricks and Luc Trevors.
The opposition Tigers showed no mercy and kept the pressure up all game by adding over 10 shots a period with the Braves only managing 11 shots through the first two periods. Braves forward Nash Wassing scored the lone goal on a pass from forward Dylan Serginson.
The Braves have struggled recently, going 0-2-2, and currently sit in fourth place in the south conference. They will look to end their recent winless trend against the Okotoks Oilers Black on Sunday Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre.
