It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Victor Gary Thomas as a result of a workplace accident, in Calgary, on March 7, 2018 – one day shy of his 75th birthday. Victor was born in Calgary, AB. on March 8, 1943, and lived his entire life on the farm at Indus, AB. It was a place he loved, and where he looked forward to spending his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife Donna (nee LaMarsh) in 2007, sister Helen France, and parents Aida and Benjamin Thomas.
Victor is survived by his wife and constant companion, Lanka Young and her family, Jamie (Gerry), Darryn, and grandson Zach (Zsuzsi) and great granddaughter Kinga. He is also survived by his daughter, Tanya Catonio (Tom), grandchildren Reagan, Hunter and Ryder, siblings Gordon (Doreen), Don (Bernice)and Barb McKoen, extended family Jim LaMarsh (Sheila), and Claudette Hansen (Darryl), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family is grateful for Victor’s very special lifelong friends, Darryl and Evelyn Winkler. Victor spent his formative years on the family farm, later attending Olds College. At 21, he began an adventure-filled driving career which included school and tour buses. For the past two decades, Victor worked for City Wide Towing & Recovery where he proudly received his 20-year Service Award in December 2017. He enjoyed camping, traveling, cooking and dining out with Lanka, as well as sharing numerous and never-ending work and yard projects with her on the farm. Victor was an avid country music fan and he enjoyed his time as an artist driver for Country Thunder Alberta. Although Victor’s passing has left an unwanted void in our lives, his family and many friends will continue to be inspired by his constant smile, incredible work ethic, and the pride he took in everything he did. Victor’s undeniable zest for life and time spent on the farm, as well as his love of animals and family, and the occasional sweet treat! will always fill our hearts with wonderful memories. A private cremation was held in Calgary. The Celebration of Victor’s life of will be Sunday, March 25, 2018, at 2 pm until 5 pm at the Glenmore Inn and Convention Centre, Calgary, Ab.
