Terry Fox Run pledge sheets now available

Jug McLeod and the rest of the Royal Canadian Terry Fox Run team want this year to be the best run ever.
The run itself might be slightly over two weeks away, but McLeod wants to make sure athletes have plenty of time to sign up and begin collecting pledges.
“It’s all about keeping Terry’s dream alive and finding a cure for cancer,” said McLeod. “It’s a great cause and it’s time to spread the word about the run.”
Strathmore holds an annual run early in September. McLeod has been involved in every step of the run and has raised money in each of the last 38 years.
Last year, McLeod said despite a great turnout by the local schools, the community run could have seen a better turnout.
With that in mind, McLeod and his team made a change to the run this year.
“The run normally goes at 8 a.m. This year, we will start it at 1 p.m.,” said McLeod. “This way, seeing as it’s on a Sunday, people can still go to church in the morning and come support a great cause in the afternoon.”
Families of all ages are always welcome for the run. Even though it is commonly referred to as “The Run,” citizens of Strathmore are welcome to run, walk or ride throughout the course, which starts by the amphitheatre in Kinsmen Park. Ambitious athletes are also encouraged to complete more than one loop of the track.
One of the courses runs around Kinsmen Lake, totaling .75 kilometres (km). For those wanting to run the longer track, they can follow the canal through Gray Park and down Wheatland Trail before coming back into town, which clocks in at 4.7 km. Applicants are encouraged to run the course as many times as they wish.
Registration for the race is open and will remain so leading up to the run. Athletes are encouraged to pick up pledge sheets as soon as possible from either Rebel Sports, the town office or the Royal Canadian Legion, as a way to start building donations.
