Nominations open for 2018 Agriculture Hall of Fame

By Miriam Ostermann, Associate Editor

Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame is looking to add to its list of visionaries by inducting several epoch-making individuals who’ve made notable contributions to the agriculture and food industry.
Nominations are now open for eligible candidates who have demonstrated leadership in the food industry or farm, rural or commodity organizations.
In order to qualify to be among the already 132 inductees, a candidate has to be nominated by three individuals, other than immediate family members, and have demonstrated leadership for many years on the provincial level, as well as shown a far-reaching province-wide impact on the industry as a whole.
The Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame came into existence in 1951, and has since welcomed over 100 Albertans into its fold.
In order to select this year’s visionaries at the awards ceremony in early October, a selection panel comprised of a cross section of individuals representing the province’s agriculture industry will be appointed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
“Agriculture is at the heart of who we are as Albertans, that’s why the Hall of Fame is an important avenue to recognize the legacy of those whose vision and work helped advance our sector,” said Minister Oneil Carlier, Agriculture and Forestry. “With this recognition we are paying tribute to the ongoing legacy of agricultural innovation in our province. I encourage all Albertans to nominate women and men for their hard work over the decades to improve agricultural practices, support growth in the industry and educate the next generation of farmers and ranchers.”
