A Calgary man is being charged with multiple criminal offences after a multi-jurisdictional incident that involved the Strathmore RCMP.
Thirty-two-year-old Cole Matthew Peoples faces 14 charges including possession of a controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, dangerous driving and impaired driving.
“This incident highlights the unpredictability of criminals and the dangerous crimes they often commit when utilizing stolen vehicles,” said Sgt. Dennis Delaronde with the Strathmore RCMP detachment. “The Strathmore RCMP was pleased with the ongoing partnership demonstrated by Calgary Police Service’s HAWCS helicopter. CPS members are thanked for their assistance in effecting the safe arrest of the suspect and putting a stop to his dangerous driving.”
Strathmore RCMP responded to a report around 10:30 a.m. on April 14 of a robbery with a firearm in Wrangler Park in Rocky View County. The call informed officials that a man was seen brandishing a firearm and travelling towards Calgary in a stolen Ford F-150. Shortly after, the RCMP received another call reporting a suspicious vehicle, which matched the previous description, at the Mountain View Cemetery. After Calgary police were notified, the vehicle fled and was later located by HAWCS helicopter driving dangerously at high speed north on Deerfoot Trail. Once the truck left city limits it became stuck in a field southwest of Balzac, where Calgary Police and RCMP members from Airdrie and Strathmore took the driver and lone occupant into custody.
Peoples has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear via CCTV in Siksika Provincial Court on April 19.
