Wheatland County woman faces hundreds of fraud charges
By Miriam Ostermann, Associate Editor
A 42-year-old woman from Wheatland County has been charged with over 300 fraud-related charges, after numerous citizens fell victim to the fraud that launched an investigation by the Strathmore RCMP.
Jane Elizabeth Moore befriended individuals, convincing them she was a member of a well-known wealthy Calgary family with an inheritance of $38 million. By falsifying bank documents and a court order that stated she would be receiving millions of dollars, she was able to persuade the victims to give her money, assuring them the repayment once the inheritance was available.
Moore was arrested on an outstanding warrant on Aug. 28, charged with 317 offences. These included 250 Criminal Code offences: two charges of uttering threats; two charges of uttering a forged document; two fraud charges over $5,000, and 242 charges of fraud under $5,000.
A day later, Moore was further charged with 67 additional fraud charges of similar occurrence.
The Wheatland County resident had previously been known to police and used myriad aliases such as Jane Seaman, Elizabeth Seaman, Jane Norman, Jane Plimmer, JJ O’Conner, and Jane Smith.
Jane Moore was remanded and is scheduled to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court on Sept. 19, 2017.

Attempted Child Abduction Unfounded
After spending resources and time to investigate a social media post about an attempted child abduction, Strathmore RCMP deemed the claim unfounded.
The RCMP began investigating the incident on Sept. 7, following information of an attempted abduction in the town. Law enforcement is confident it does not present a public risk, and found the incident unsubstantiated.
