RODEHUTSKORS, Bernhard Josef (Ben)
1931-2017

On January 27, 2017 Ben passed away at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness. Ben was born in Karlsburg, Germany, the oldest of nine children born to Klara and Stefan Kors. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 at the age of 22, speaking no English, but having a vast skill set spanning from farming to carpentry. He worked his way across Canada until he arrived in Calgary. Here he met and married the love of his life Mechthilde (n.Verweyen). They settled in Calgary and raised four children. They moved their family to an acreage near Strathmore in 1970 (Cheadle) where Ben was able to indulge in his true passion for farming. He and Mechthilde eventually retired and moved into town. Ben had numerous health challenges and succumbed to complications from them. He passed away peacefully at Strathmore Hospital with his wife of almost 58 years by his side. He will be greatly missed by his children; Clara (Reg), Dorothy, and Paul (Jennifer). Ben leaves his legacy to ten grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by six siblings all of Germany and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the US, and Germany. Ben was pre-deceased by his son (Steven), a 2 year old granddaughter, one brother and one sister. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Lord of All Lutheran Church (112 Lakeside Blvd, Strathmore) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ben’s honor directly to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund (23 Strathmore Lakes Way, Strathmore, AB).
