A fun-filled February is scheduled at the Strathmore Library, with a full month of programs for children.
• Friday Fun Film is on Feb. 10. The film runs from 1-3 p.m.; at the end of the movie there will be a draw for one participant to take the movie home. Popcorn and drinks are available throughout the film.
• February break programming will be offered from Feb. 21 to Feb. 24 to keep children busy and their minds active while they have the week off school.
• Putt and Play takes place on Feb. 21 from 12-4 p.m., with library mini-golf. The golf course will be set up throughout the library and will include several putting greens to test golf skills.
• Also on Feb. 21, test your gaming skills with a variety of board games, or challenge a friend to a game on the PlayStation 4. This program is free and open to all ages with no registration required.
• Feb. 22 will be filled with magic as Christopher Cool, Calgary’s funniest and most kid-friendly magician will be performing tricks, telling jokes and putting on an exciting show. The magic show takes place from 2:30-3:15 p.m. with doors opening at 2:10 p.m.
• Christopher Cool will also be doing a one hour Secrets Revealed workshop for 25 participants aged 8-11. This special interactive magic workshop will teach you magic tricks you’ve always wanted to know how to do. Cost is $5 per child, and all props and supplies are included. Register in person at the library from Feb. 1-18.
• Wacky Winter Wonderland takes place on Feb. 23 from 1-3 p.m. Grab your library passport and collect stamps from each winter-themed station. Once your passport is full, you will be entered to win a $30 gift card to Toys “R” Us. The program is free to attend and open for all ages.
• The February break week will end with another Friday Fun Film on Feb. 24 from 1-3 p.m. Visit strathmorelibrary.ca/events for more information and movie titles.
• Blind Date with a Book is back for its third year. All month long starting Feb. 1, spice up your reading life by going on a blind date with a book. Choose from a selection of pre-wrapped books with the book profile written on the wrapping and take them home for a reading date.
• Local artist Deb Klics returns to the Strathmore Library in February and March with her new art exhibit, Afternoon Tea. The featured exhibit includes mixed media paintings in various sizes. Klics used photos, acrylic paint, tissue paper, writing pastels and other materials to create semi-abstract works in various colours and textures.
• On Feb. 21 two painting classes will be held with Dale Manyguns. Enjoy a fun paint night for $40 and choose from two class times: 4-6 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. Register in person at the library.
• Food for Fines returns to the library from Mar. 1 to 31. For every non-perishable food item or personal hygiene item you donate, $2 of your overdue book fines will be waived.
• There will be a book sale on Mar. 3 and 4 with all proceeds going towards programs and services at the Strathmore Library. Books are 50 cents each or three for $1.
• On Mar. 28, the Strathmore Library is offering a book folding class. For $40, turn a book into a personal work-of-art as you transform the pages into a folded heart. There is a beginner’s class to fold the pages into an original heart, or an advanced class to turn the book into an inverted heart. Sign up for one or both classes in person at the library.
