Eleven-year-old Florence Kalia from Strathmore recently wrote and published a book titled A Trip to Candyland.
The book follows Ruben, Max and Hershey on their escapades within Candyland as they visit places such as Chocolate Milk River and Jello Park and eventually become trapped, looking for a way to escape and go home.
The plot of this story keeps readers entertained and the Gummy Monster villain, along with his servants Bing and Ding, serve to heighten suspense.
Kalia started writing the book about two years ago, and it was published in June. Her mother served as inspiration to write the book after seeing a special writing talent within her daughter.
“I was just thinking and the idea came to my mind,” said Kalia. “It was a lot of fun.”
The youngster collaborated with a designer for eight months to design the book cover and pictures within the book. To date, she has given copies of the book to teachers and principals within Strathmore schools. She has also given copies to school libraries and local libraries and plans to give more copies to families and friends.
In 2014, Kalia wrote a short story titled “Family” which appeared in the book On the Bus to Wonderland published by Young Writers of Canada.
