The Strathmore Thunder U14A fast-pitch team has had a fruitful season after claiming the Calgary Minor Softball U14 Premiere Division Championship on June 28.
After finishing in first place during the regular season, the girls defeated the Calgary Kaizen in the championship finals.
“They are a team and they work together as a team,” said Vince Olson, Thunder head coach. “We always say you succeed and fail as a group and that is what this team does.”
The team, which also won gold at the Girls Prairie League Championship tournament in Sherwood Park earlier this season, is ranked fourth in the province and will be going to provincials in Calgary from July 8-10.
Olson said the provincials will be a challenge for the team, but their hope is to finish in the top four. The team is made of 11 local girls, all of whom Olsen said have greatly improved over the season.
