When their 10.5-year-old dog Peetie’s aggressive cancer prognosis took a turn for the worse seven weeks ago, pet owners Reesa and Cameron Bruce exhausted all options to prolong his life; eventually even seeking out advice on euthanasia procedures. That was until the couple stumbled across Health Canada approved Medical Marijuana Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil products. In Peetie’s case, within a day, the Maltese Yorkie’s appetite returned, he was chasing the cats, jumped on the furniture, and started sleeping through the night. Astounded by its effect, the Wheatland County residents, their parents and close friends began using the hemp seed oil themselves, ultimately resulting in the creation of Endeavour More Living – the only distributors of the product in Strathmore and area.
“We were misinformed at one point, we just assumed medical marijuana meant the drug form and this is a morally comfortable option for people who want medical marijuana but don’t want anything to do with the drug side of it,” said Reesa Bruce.
“We started realizing there are so many people that are suffering with something and sometimes it’s a physical condition, sometimes it’s a mental condition, and sometimes people just want to be healthy. All it is, is the pressed oil from the seeds which is a super-food. All it is, is a food substance.”
The cannabis hemp seed oil products are legally approved federally and by Health Canada, and grown by farmers in Health Canada facilities. Containing 80 per cent of essential fatty acids – omegas 3-6-9 – and all eight amino acids, and with only trace amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, Health Canada states the product doesn’t cause a high, addiction or lead to an overdose. Furthermore, because it’s a food source, there are no known side effects or interference with other medications.
While the local distributors only launched their business on May 7, the interest and feedback has been overwhelming.
“It’s been way busier than we expected,” said Reesa Bruce. “We’re having trouble keeping the product in. We kind of expected some controversy because of the word marijuana, but we’ve had nothing but love and support. The product itself has been around for 15 years, so it’s not like it’s brand new. We’re just only new to it because it really doesn’t get a lot of public attention. It’s starting to now.”
Since providing the product locally, the couple has been busy studying up on the product, its health benefits, and spent any extra time on their lunch breaks and after work making deliveries around Strathmore and the Wheatland County area.
Although Reesa and Cameron Bruce recognize the product won’t act as a cure for their dog and don’t want to cause false hope for the public, the products have been known to provide relief and may be beneficial to those suffering from numerous illnesses including cancer, arthritis, diabetes, Celiac disease, seizures, anxiety, allergies, sleep issues, brain function issues, and hormonal issues. As with any health product, it is advised that those suffering from medical conditions or are on prescription drugs check with their doctor.
“People we know that are taking numerous pills a day and they’re able to cut back their pills dramatically,” said Cameron Bruce. “If it can alleviate some of your symptoms, all the better. It’s a healthy alternative to a lot of the pharmaceuticals. We are just scratching the surface of this. It’s not a big town, but there are a lot of people with a lot of issues and to make a change in someone’s life, that’s huge.”
