Two talented female hockey players from Langdon and Carseland, Erin Fargey and Jane Jacobs, will be off to the 2016 Team Alberta U18 Female Summer Camp after making it through the spring camp tryouts.
The summer camp is the second of three camps that will help determine who will make the U18 Alberta girls team to compete at nationals, which will be held in Regina from Nov. 9-13.
“I thought the previous camp went well,” said Erin Fargey, who has been playing hockey for eight years. “There were a lot of girls from everywhere. It was cool to have all the girls to tryout for the team.”
Fargey, 16, is one of the six goaltenders that will be trying out for the three spots in the fall camp. The call that she had made it to the next round had come as a nice surprise as she hopes to make the team, which could help further her hockey career or help her achieve her dream of going to university and playing as part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) or the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She has been working hard training for the next camp.
Jane Jacobs is one of the 16 defense players who will be going to the camp, but she unavailable for comment.
The summer hockey camp will focus on developing skills both on and off the ice. The girls will also play a number of game to determine which of the 46 will go on to the fall camp.
“Those camps are to evaluate and see the players are,” said Mathieu Provencher, the
coordinator of Team Alberta Female Hockey in Alberta. “After these six days tryouts for the fall camp, we will make our selection for about 25-28 players.”
The summer camp will run for six days from July 12-17 and will be held in Camrose.
