The Wheatland Kings officially capped off their 2015-2016 season by dishing out some hardware at their annual Award Banquet on April 15 at the Strathmore Family Centre.
The Junior B squad gathered one last time to celebrate a successful season, while recognizing the players who made a difference on and off the ice.
According to head coach Emilio Fuoco, there was one similar characteristic all the award winners possessed.
“Their attention to the details, whether it was offensively or defensively,” explained Fuoco. “They enjoyed playing and they wanted to do well, and most of those leaders were trying to pull the team with them. By the time the season ended … they were all pulling the rope in the same direction.”
Fuoco added that he was extremely proud of his team, and the camaraderie was evident throughout the season.
“We had some real fun moments,” said Fuoco. “The guys kept things light.”
The Most Improved award went to Zach Meadows, while Cole Busslinger was named the Hardest Working Wheatie.
Choosing one player to receive the Top Defenseman award proved too difficult for the coaches, so both Brennan Fuoco and Blake Bishop took home the honours.
The Strathmore Times Player of the Year, which is given to the player who earns the most player of the game honours during the regular season and playoffs, was also a tie between Jacen Bracko and Kristian Ayoungman. Bracko also took home the Most Valuable Player honours for the season.
The Kings also named team equipment manager Scott Pagenkopf as the Unsung Hero.
