Giving back in bleak times

Despite current tough economic times in the oil and gas industry, the Strathmore Oilmen will give back to local charities upon completion of the 10th Annual 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament.
The tournament allows oil and gas companies to mingle with their clients while helping different charities such as Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart and Strathmore and District’s Christmas Hamper.
“It is not a good year this year but we are trying to keep it positive,” said Sean Duthie, one of the tournament’s organizers. “We want to get people out and have a good time. We are trying to boost everyone’s morale I guess, we know it will be a another challenging year so just wanted everyone to have fun.”
According to Duthie, he has seen a number of Oilmen’s golf tournament in other areas with low turnouts or cancelled because of the oil slump. With this observation in mind, the entry fees for this year were dropped to $110 per player from $125, and the tournament already had 144 players registered to play.
“Our goal is to raise money for some of those charities and help some of the local people who are in oil and gas,” said Duthie.
The tournament took place on June 16 at the Strathmore Golf Club.
