The Strathmore Girls Fastpitch Softball teams continue to do well this season.
Recently the U10-06 won silver during their provincials, while the U19 team won bronze in their provincials.
The U10-06 took part in the provincials on July 1-3 at the Henry Singer Diamonds in Edmonton.
“I was so impressed with the girls and how well they played as a team,” said Wes Clark, the U10-06 coach. “We had timely hits, great pitching, executed double plays, laid down picture perfect bunts and ran the bases well.”
The team was formed in June and they had four practices and five exhibition games before they played in the provincials. Clark said the team had a lot thrown at them in the short time period but they handled it well, of which he is proud.
The U10-06 finished the round robin section of the provincials in third. During the playoff round they took on the Sedgwick Oilers and won. This allowed them to move on to the medal game, which they played on July 3. They defeated the Lloydminster Liners and went on to play the Edmonton Warriors.
While they were defeated 17-14, Clark said it was a very tight game that could have gone either way, and by winning silver it showed the athleticism of the team.
The U19 girls’ fastpitch team headed to Leduc for their provincials on July 1-3.
“The girls had a lot of fun,” said Vince Olson, the U19 coach. “They deserve their success.”
The team finished third in the round robin section by defeating Fairview, Bonnyville, and East Central. Their only loss of the round robin was to Provost.
During the semifinals the team lost to Lacombe, which meant they went to the bronze medal game against East Central, which they won by a score of 10-8.
