It was a successful weekend for the Strathmore girls’ fastpitch softball teams as the U16 took silver in the St. Albert Tournament and the Thunder Junior B team and the U18 team took part in the Calgary Women’s Fastpitch Association (CWFA) Annual Women’s Fastpitch tournament on June 3-5 in Calgary.
The Thunder U16 team came out of the St. Albert tournament’s round robin with one win, one loss and one tie. After being awarded the second spot in their pool the team made it to the finals.
During the CWFA Annual Women’s Fastpitch tournament the Thunder Junior B team managed to make a 3-1 win in the preliminaries and made it to the playoffs but was eliminated from the tournament after losing the first game of the playoffs.
“It was a solid effort by the team,” said Lanky Johnson, the Junior B coach.
“For the five games we had to use one pitcher throughout the weekend as two of our pitchers are out with injuries.”
However the highlight of the tournament for Johnson was the triple play the team made on the Friday night. A triple play is a rare act where a team makes three outs, touching a player before they get to the next base, during the same continuous play.
The U18 team also took part in the tournament and completed the weekend with a one win and three loss round robin.
