Last week, April 21, Telus announced that they plan to invest $1.2 million this year in Strathmore to improve the communications infrastructure. This will mean that Telus-provided services will become faster and more effective.
The deal is part of Telus’s larger investment in Alberta. By 2018 they plan to have invested $4.2 billion in the province in the hopes of improving the services that they offer to all aspects of the community.
At the end of the planned investment period Telus will have put $45 billion into Alberta since 2000.
“This investment will bring faster, higher-capacity Internet service to more local homes and businesses and increase wireless speeds in and around the community,” said Fred Weinheimer, TELUS Alberta South general manager in a press release.
“Demand for Internet and wireless capacity is exploding in Strathmore as the community continues to grow, and this sustained investment will ensure our customers here continue to have among the best communications networks in the world.”
The press release detailed the planned investment will affect personal Internet, healthcare providers, local businesses and the community.
Every wireless site in the community will be upgraded to 4G LTE, wireless capacity will be increased and TELUS’ Future Friendly Home solutions will have new content making it the most customer- friendly with the most specialty TV packages of any TV distributor.

Currently they help to electronically supply 14,000 Canadian doctors with medicals records and help with health benefits management solutions for other healthcare providers.
As for the business side of things the investment will focus on allowing local businesses to grow as well as network, security, cloud computing and growing the idea of the Internet-connected devices to facilitate the Internet of things (IoT) in Alberta.
