Strathmore Ringette is going into its 15th year in town and is seeing continual growth in player development; however, with players moving on to higher levels of ringette, the numbers have dropped.
“Now it’s a matter of the teams getting together, bonding as a team and practicing and going off and playing,” said Tami Lemoine, Strathmore Ringette director of managers. “We’re a little down (in numbers) from last year, but not much. We don’t have an open team this year. Our older ladies are off doing their own thing and we lost some players because our zone has opened up two double-A teams, U14 and U16, we’re in the position where we lost players to go to that team but we’re so proud they made it.”
LeMoine sees players come back year after year because they love ringette a lot after they have gone to try other sports.
Strathmore Ringette’s saying of Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Fair Play will be emphasized to all the teams.
“We want our girls to have a good time,” said Lemoine, “We want them to skate, we want them to get sweaty, we want them to work hard but mostly have fun.”
Additionally, 17 people came out to the ‘try-it’ event, which allows players to try the game for the first time, and 16 registered while a lot of junior coaches returned to mentor the kids.
